Hello everyone. If you’re reading this, you might know the feeling of waking up and wondering if your hands will actually close today. My name is Aditi, I’m 36, and for the last few years, I’ve been living with Amavata—what modern medicine usually calls Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Being in your mid-30s is supposed to be your “prime,” but Amavata makes you feel decades older. The stiff joints, the lingering fatigue, and that heavy, “clogged” feeling in the body became my new normal. After trying various treatments that only masked the pain, I decided to go back to the roots.
I recently completed a Panchkarma treatment at Ayurprayagam in Prayagraj, and I wanted to share my experience for anyone else feeling stuck in their own body.
Understanding the Enemy: What is Amavata?
In Ayurveda, Amavata isn’t just “joint pain.” It’s a combination of two things:
- Ama: Toxic remains of undigested food, that’s sticks in our body and with help from vata its gets deposited in your joints and cause pain ,heaviness ,fever like feeling
- Vata: The bio-energy responsible for movement.
When your digestion (Agni) is weak, Ama forms and gets carried by Vata into the joints. It’s like pouring sand into the gears of a machine. It causes inflammation, stiffness, and that signature “shifting” pain.
Why I Chose Ayurprayagam
Living in Prayagraj, I had heard a lot about Ayurprayagam. I wanted a place that didn’t just offer “spa-style” massages but followed the authentic, clinical Shastras (scriptures). From the first consultation, the doctor Dr. Vijay. P. singh explained that we weren’t just treating my knees or wrists—we were cleaning my entire internal system.along with lifestyle changes ,he also state that aam vata disease in ayurveda it’s a difficult to treatment and kept in ashady ( means difficult to treat ) …don’t worrie can be treated or manage easily by ayurveda and panchakarma .
My Panchkarma Experience
Panchkarma for Amavata is a bit different than a general detox. Because Amavata involves “dampness” (Ama), you can’t just jump into heavy oil massages. Here is what my journey looked like:
1. Deepana & Pachana (Kindling the Fire)
Before the “main” therapy, I was given specific herbs to improve my digestion. The goal was to “cook” the toxins so they could be moved out, due to their stick nature these herbs make them non stick.
2. Valuka Sweda (Sand Fomentation)
Unlike typical steam, I was treated with heated sand boluses. This felt incredible. The dry heat helps “dry up” the swelling in the joints. It was the first time in months I felt a lightness in my ankles., there are also some other form of sweda that is used according to patient nature or constitution as told in ayurveda
3. Virechana (Purgation)
Once the toxins were loosened, I underwent Virechana. It’s a controlled cleansing process that clears the Pitta and toxins from the gut. It’s a long day, but the clarity I felt afterward was worth it.
4. Basti (The Golden Standard)
For Vata disorders, Basti (medicated enemas) is considered the ultimate cure. At Ayurprayagam, they used a specific sequence called Kala Basti. It sounds intimidating, but it’s actually very grounding and did more for my lower back pain than any pill ever did.
The Results: Life at 36, Reclaimed
I won’t tell you I’m a marathon runner overnight, but the transformation is undeniable:
- Morning Stiffness: Gone from 2 hours to about 10 minutes.
- Energy Levels: I no longer feel the need to nap at 3:00 PM just to survive the evening.
- Digestion: My bloating has vanished, and I feel “light” inside.
My Advice to You
If you are a woman in your 30s or 40s struggling with autoimmune issues or chronic joint pain:
- Don’t wait. The longer Ama sits in the joints, the harder it is to move.
- Trust the process. Panchkarma isn’t a “quick fix.” It’s a systematic reset.
- Diet is Key. The doctors at Ayurprayagam emphasized that if I keep eating “junk,” the Ama will just come back.
Healing is possible. Sometimes, you just have to slow down and let an ancient science lead the way.
