Hey everyone! If you’ve been following my stories lately, you know I’ve been struggling with stubborn cystic acne for the last two years. Being 18 is supposed to be about graduation, college prep, and feeling your best, but instead, I was hiding behind layers of concealer and feeling totally drained.

After trying every “miracle” serum and harsh chemical peel under the sun, I decided to take a completely different route: Ayurveda. Specifically, I underwent Vaman Karma (therapeutic congestion release) at Ayur Prayagam .

It was intense, eye-opening, and honestly life-changing. Here is the full breakdown of my 15-day journey from “pizza face” to clear, glowing skin.

Why Ayurveda? Why Now?

At 18, our hormones are basically doing parkour. My doctors told me it was “just puberty,” but my skin felt angry. In Ayurveda, acne (known as Mukhadooshika or yuvnapidika) isn’t just a surface issue; it’s an internal imbalance of Pitta (heat) and Kapha (toxins).

When I walked into Ayur Prayagam , the vibe was immediately different. No sterile white walls—just the smell of calming oils and doctors who actually listened. They recommended Vaman, one of the five Panchakarma detox treatments, specifically designed to clear out excess Kapha and toxins from the upper body.

The Preparation: Snehapana (Days 1–7)

You don’t just walk in and start the main procedure. Your body has to be prepped. This phase is called Poorva Karma.

Drinking Ghee (Yes, Really!)

For seven days, I had to drink medicated cow ghee (M.TIKTAK  Ghrita) on an empty stomach every morning.vaidya told me that ghee is decided on the basis of your prakriti or nature of your body that is analysis by the questions of vaidya

Why? The ghee lubricates your internal channels and “loosens” the deep-seated toxins (doshas) from your tissues, coaxing them toward your stomach so they can be eliminated.

The Diet

During this week, I was on a strict “Sattvic” diet. No spices, no caffeine, no junk. Just mung dal khichadee  and warm water. I felt a bit lethargic, but my doctors at Ayur Prayagam  explained that my body was working hard on the “internal housekeeping.”

The Pre-Vaman Pampering (Days 8–9)

Once my internal “lubrication” was done, I moved to Abhyanga (full-body massage) and Swedana (herbal steam).

Imagine two therapists massaging warm, herbal oils into your skin in perfect sync. It was heaven! The steam helps open up the pores and channels, ensuring the toxins are ready to leave. By the end of day 9, I felt like a marshmallow—soft, relaxed, and ready for the big day.

The Big Day: Vaman Karma

I woke up at 6:00 AM on the day of Vaman. I was nervous, but the team at Ayur Prayagam  was so supportive. Vaman is “induced vomiting,” which sounds scary, but it’s a controlled, therapeutic process.

The Ritual

  1. Offerings: We started with a small prayer for healing.
  2. Filling up: I had to drink a large amount of milk and sugarcane juice to fill my stomach to the brim.
  3. The Medicine: Then, I was given the Vaman Yoga—a mixture of Madanaphala (Emetic nut), honey, and calamus.

The Release

Within minutes, the urge to vomit came. Unlike when you’re sick and your stomach hurts, this felt like a massive “reset.” With every bout, I could feel the heaviness leaving my chest and throat. The doctors carefully monitored the “output” (yup, they check the color and texture to ensure the toxins are out!).

By the end, I felt an incredible sense of lightness. My head felt clear, my breathing was deeper, and strangely, the inflammation in my active pimples already looked less “angry.”

The Aftercare: Samsarjana Krama (Days 10–15)

You can’t just go out and eat a burger after Vaman. Your digestive fire (Agni) is very delicate.

Ayur Prayagam  gave me a specific 5-day diet chart:

This slowly restarts your metabolism. During this time, I stayed away from the sun and loud noises, giving my body the rest it deserved.

The Results: 30 Days Later

It’s been a month since my treatment at Ayur Prayagam , and the transformation is awesome

“The biggest change wasn’t just the mirror; it was how I felt inside. My skin stopped producing that ‘angry’ oil, and scars are fading much faster now that my blood is purified.”

My Tips for Girls Considering Vaman

If you’re 18 and struggling with skin issues that won’t go away, here’s my advice:

  1. Trust the Process: The ghee part is hard. The Vaman day is intense. But the result is worth every second.
  2. Choose the Right Place: I can’t recommend Ayur Prayagam  enough. Having expert doctors who monitor your pulse and energy daily is crucial.
  3. Timing is Everything: Plan your Vaman during a school break. You need the mental space to heal.
  4. It’s Not Just a “Quick Fix”: Ayurveda is a lifestyle. I still avoid “Viruddha Ahara” (incompatible foods like milk with fruit) to keep my results.

Final Thoughts

Vaman Karma taught me that my skin was just a messenger. It was telling me that my internal system was overloaded. By detoxing at Ayur Prayagam , I didn’t just clear my pimples—I reclaimed my confidence for my freshman year of college.
